Ordelis legal practice

Our Story & Mission

A Firm Built on Considered Advice

Ordelis was founded in Ipoh with a straightforward premise: that legal advice is most useful when it is clearly understood, carefully reasoned, and delivered with respect for the client's position.

01 · Our Story

Founded in Ipoh. Advising Across Malaysia.

Ordelis was established in 2013 by a small group of Malaysian lawyers who felt that the sectors they cared most about — financial services regulation, environmental law, and consumer rights — were underserved by practices that took on too broad a remit to develop deep working knowledge in any one of them.

Starting from a single office in Greentown Business Centre, the firm grew steadily by focusing on relationships rather than volume. Clients returned because the advice they received was straightforward, well-researched, and given with the clear understanding that a business or individual acting on legal counsel carries the consequences — not the adviser.

Over the following years, Ordelis developed a particular strength in Bank Negara Malaysia compliance matters, followed by work on Department of Environment regulatory requirements as environmental scrutiny of commercial activities intensified throughout Perak and neighbouring states. Consumer protection work grew organically from both sides: businesses seeking to understand their obligations, and individuals seeking to understand their options.

Today, the firm handles engagements of varying complexity across Peninsular Malaysia. The size has remained intentionally modest — a decision that keeps the quality of each piece of work where it needs to be.

Our Mission

To provide legal counsel in regulated commercial areas that is grounded in current Malaysian law, communicated clearly, and delivered with genuine regard for the people and organisations who depend on it.

Core Values

  • Clarity

Legal advice is only useful if it is understood. We write and speak plainly.

  • Integrity

We tell clients what we believe to be accurate, even when the answer is not what they hoped to hear.

  • Thoroughness

Regulatory matters reward careful reading. We take the time that the work requires.

  • Respect

Clients are not cases. We work with people, and we conduct every engagement accordingly.

Legal Counsel in Banking, Environmental, and Consumer Matters — Ipoh, Perak

Ordelis operates within three areas of Malaysian law where regulatory complexity tends to create the greatest uncertainty for businesses and individuals: financial services, environmental obligations, and consumer rights. Each of these areas is governed by legislation that is updated periodically, interpreted through regulatory guidance and tribunal decisions, and enforced by agencies with specific procedural requirements.

Financial institutions and corporate borrowers working within the framework of Bank Negara Malaysia's guidelines benefit from counsel that understands both the letter of the regulation and the practical considerations that banks and their clients navigate in structuring lending arrangements. Our Banking and Finance Law practice addresses exactly this space.

Manufacturing companies, plantation operators, and property developers in Perak and surrounding states face environmental obligations that require careful mapping against their specific activities. The Environmental Quality Act 1974 and its associated regulations place concrete obligations on these businesses — obligations that Ordelis can help identify, prepare for, and satisfy in dealings with the Department of Environment.

Consumer protection law in Malaysia has evolved significantly since the Consumer Protection Act 1999 was enacted, and the growth of e-commerce has added layers of obligation for businesses operating online. Our Consumer Protection Advisory service helps businesses understand and document their compliance position, and assists consumers in identifying their options when disputes arise.
